Business of the Month January 2016
Word Center Printing
Thirty-three years have passed since Marilyn Silverman took her small, home-based editorial operation from New York to Central Jersey. In 1982, Word Center Printing was born from her keen eye for detail and the need for professional printing services. Since those days, the shop’s superior handiwork and dedicated customer service have remained soundly intact, while its products and offerings have found new avenues for expansion. Whether the client is looking for brochures, variable data mass mailings, business cards or multi-part forms, postcards, wedding invitations or a job seeker requiring a professional resume, Word Center Printing has it covered.
In addition to specialized equipment, including a rare color digital envelope model, and its access to high-quality paper stock and ink, Word Center has assembled a team that completes complex projects on time and on budget, including spouse and partner Jerry.
“We also have a niche business for healthcare providers, including NJ prescription forms and healthcare-related materials. Our healthcare clients are in New York and New Jersey, and we ship to them almost daily.”
While the world of wedding and social invitations has certainly changed, the best bet for the region’s would-be brides and grooms is still local. “Lace, bows, ribbons, brooches, glitter– we design an ensemble based on the bride’s vision, produce a sample, and then hand-assemble each invitation set,” said Silverman. “We also print guest addresses on envelopes and place cards or seating charts, and design menus and programs. It’s all very rewarding.”
The longtime area outfit puts a high priority on investing in its fellow businesses and community. “We live in Hamilton and we shop local,” said Silverman, an active member of Hamilton’s Shop Local initiative. “We support local non-profits, schools and political campaigns because we believe in involvement in our town.”
Silverman adheres to the philosophy that there’s no substitute for face-to-face interaction with patrons, as anyone who’s solicited her resume-writing services can attest to.
A potential job candidate schedules an appointment with Silverman, who taps into her customer’s relevant work experience, commendable qualities, achievements and the like. When complete, the customer has a comprehensive document for presentation to any future employer and lifetime updating service.
“We’re always doing something different, researching and learning something new,” she said. “We enjoy everything: writing, editing, designing and printing.”
